Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How many people apply for Social Security Disability Income in Tennessee?

In 2005, nearly 68,000 Tennesseans filed for disability benefits.

Q: What are the chances my first claim will be rejected by the Social Security Administration?

In 2003, DDS examiners denied 77 percent of the claims they reviewed. This is compared to a denial rate of 64 percent nationally.

Q: How soon after I am injured can I apply for Social Security Disability benefits?

It is best to apply as soon as you are disabled. However, you will be required to show that you will be disabled for at least 12 months. Call 901-866-9495 to let me help you start the process.

Q: How long does it take the DDS to decide my initial claim?

It generally takes the DDS six months to make a determination on your initial claim.

Q: How long does it take to appeal the DDS’s decision?

Unfortunately it can take up to a year or more to get a final decision. You generally want to have an attorney represent you at your hearing. Although it is not required, it by and large increases your chances of obtaining a favorable ruling. I know what it takes to get you the benefits you need. Please call 901-866-9495 if I can assist you.

Q: How do I know how much I should receive in Social Security Disability Income?

The Social Security has a few calculators that can give you an estimate of what you can expect. Click:
